You fit the bill!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Have any of you read the book <strong>Cold Steel<\/strong>? I feel it should be compulsory reading for any lawyer or law student wanting to make a career in mergers and acquisitions (M&amp;A) and investment law.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why? If the title doesn\u2019t ring a bell, let me give you the tagline: Lakshmi Mittal and the Multi-Billion Dollar Battle for a Global Empire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I assume you can now guess what the book is about: Mittal\u2019s hostile takeover or acquisition of Arcelor \u2013 the world&#8217;s largest steel producer by turnover \u2013 and the birth of ArcelorMittal.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We often use the word epic very lightly, but this truly was an epic corporate battle \u2013 for control of the global steel market. It was a battle that reached the highest corridors of power in Europe, shook up financial markets worldwide, and changed the global steel industry forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And it involved literally thousands of M&amp;A lawyers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cold Steel is a great example of how headline-grabbing deals, a global client network, incredible glamour, immense prestige, huge fees can all be part of your life as an M&amp;A lawyer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the way India\u2019s M&amp;A market is going, your chances of building this amazing career are higher now than ever,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who are we looking at?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Which of these are you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A fresh law graduate who wants to be a corporate lawyer&nbsp;<\/li><li>A soon-to-be graduate who is not interested in litigation but wants a job in corporate law<\/li><li>A litigator who wants to get into corporate law<\/li><li>An established or senior lawyer looking for an entry into the lucrative M&amp;A or investment law sectors<\/li><li>A practicing lawyer looking for more international career opportunities<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Just know this: should you pursue M&amp;A and investment law as a career, the demand for you is skyrocketing right now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If I take only 2022 as an example, the excellent showing by India\u2019s M&amp;A market saw it register a 40 percent growth to cross USD 160 billion.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In January 2023, a report by top global management consulting firm Bain &amp; Company stated that India\u2019s record levels of cash and availability of assets helped deal value rise by 139 percent in 2022.
