Details of the Job/Internship
Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai invites applications for the position of Field Investigator under the project “Evaluating Role and Function of Women in Policing in the State of Maharashtra”.
About the Project
Achieving the goals of equal participation of women and men in decision-making will provide a balance that will more meaningfully reflect the position of society. Without the active participation of women and the incorporation of women‟s perspectives at all levels of decision-making, goals of equality, development and peace cannot be achieved. At the fourth United Nations Conference in 1995 in Beijing, China it was reiterated that women empowerment and their full participation in all spheres of society including the decision-making process is fundamental for achieving equality, development, and peace.
The situation is critical in the Maharashtra Police Service, an important agency of the criminal justice system perhaps because, by and large, policing is regarded as a male bastion. Even though women have been introduced into this male bastion and tried to carve a way out for themselves, the number of such women is low. Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai shall be conducting research and thereby attempting to understand the role and function of Mahila Police Officers and whether there is a need to have Mahila Police Stations in the state of Maharashtra. National Commission for Women is the funding agency for this research project.
