For Law Students/ Law Graduates/Candidates Preparing For Competitive Exams (Law) /Legal Practitioners/ Individuals wishing to learn the Indian Evidence Act.
What are the First Questions that come to your mind when you think about studying the Indian Evidence Act?
- Apart from Civil and Criminal law, why do I have to study the Indian Evidence Act?
- What is the relevance of Evidence Law as a legal subject in theory and practice?
- How to start reading the bare act and keep the important provisions in mind?
- Is there a shortcut to get over it because of its compact size?
- Do you think that the technical nature of the subject makes it a tough exercise to grasp all the concepts at one go?
- How does one connect the dots of the Indian Evidence Act with other civil as well as criminal laws.
Beware of the common misconceptions about learning the Indian Evidence Act:
- You have to get a grasp on the Indian Penal Code and Criminal Procedure Code before learning the Indian Evidence Act.
- This subject is altogether less important than other mainstreams law subjects and lesser number of provisions are always easy to cover.
- The Indian Evidence Act need not be read in an interconnected manner with other civil and criminal legal aspects.
- Only the first 55 sections which form the part of Relevance are important and the rest are of no significance.
- Visiting the Courtroom itself explains the principles of the subject, there is no need to refer to the bare act.
- All the provisions of the Evidence Act is criminal in nature and they have no connection with the civil branch of law.
- All the legislative Acts framed before the era of independence are well drafted and easy to uncode.
Why is LawSikho launching a Crash Course on the Indian Evidence Act?
The law of Evidence is that adjective law without which there can be no adjudication. It is an inseparable part of the structure of Criminal law specially which should not be just done away with. It not only governs the admissibility and relevancy of evidence but also determines those categories of evidence which can be taken into consideration in a court of law.
A good lawyer/judiciary aspirant should not only be acquainted with those principles but also have them in his tip of fingers as this subject forms a decisive factor in deciding a case. A perfect example for this would be Section 32(1) which makes the evidence given by a person dying relevant on a presumption that a person cannot die with a lie in his mouth.
This high is the practical importance of the subject both in competitive exams and academic spheres. A basic reading of 167 sections would not serve the ends but an exhaustive understanding of each and every concept in relation to other connected subjects like Indian Penal Code, Criminal Procedure Code is highly recommended.
A Walkthrough of LawSikho’s Crash Course on Indian Evidence Act:

FAQs
We recommend that you should have completed your Higher Secondary / Class XII from a recognized Board / University. In the case of foreign nationals, you should have completed the equivalent of Higher Secondary in India in your respective country. You should also be comfortable with the English language and using a computer. However, we have no formal pre-qualification requirements because we are not a University or college. Anyone who wants to learn is welcome to join our courses.
Students of LawSikho will be provided, we will dispatch hard copy materials within 45 days of your course commencement date.
However, online classes, videos, regulatory updates and periodic upgrades to the courses cannot be included in the hard copies. We will provide you with hard copy material for all important chapters. We keep adding many new chapters from time to time and there are restrictions on page numbers so all online material cannot be available in hard copy. We would keep adding new material online from time to time, so please do not expect all such material to be made available in the hard copy also. You can use the hard copy materials for your reference, however, we recommend that you do not exclusively rely on hard copies for cracking the assessment test and the exercises. Please refer to the online library of materials from time to time.
Note: We will send hard copy material through our service partners. We have three service partners.
1. Indian Speed Post (Provides delivery ‘anywhere in India’ under contractual service)
2. Delhivery
3. Trackon Couriers Pvt Limited
If our service partners do not have a presence in your area and want to get the hard copy, you can send us a specific request.
LawSikho will not be responsible if the speed post bounces back or hard copy material is not delivered. We will levy the courier charge on you in such a scenario.
Please visit the respective course page to learn more about the hard copy study material policy of that course.
If international students require hard copy material, they need to share their correct address and we will let them know the cost of the courier which they need to pay and then the hard copy will be dispatched. This is the process because the cost of an international courier is very high compared to the domestic courier within India (for domestic courier we have no additional charges). Some international students provide us with an Indian address for couriering hard copy material. In those cases, we charge nothing extra for the courier.
