Do you wish to be addressed as an academician?
Do you have a keen interest in legal research?
Do you want to reach the pinnacle of academic success?
Do you want to build a career in teaching?
Do you want to become a Professor, and have a “Dr.” affixed to your name?
General Information
A Ph.D. degree can take between 2-6 years, but is crucial for you to grow to the rank of Associate Professor and Professor.
It takes approximately 8 years to become an Assistant Professor after clearing UGC-NET, and 15 years to become a Professor.
A Professor’s salary can be as high as INR 1.5 lakhs per month, plus perks, while an Associate Professor
Private universities such as Jindal pay over INR 3 lakhs per month.
However, to get onto this career trajectory, you must first enrol yourself in Ph.D. after cracking the UGC-NET exam.
Without Ph.D. you could only become Assistant Professor, and your career graph does not progress.
From July 2021, obtaining admission in Ph.D. has become mandatory to secure a job even as an Assistant Professor in a University - cracking UGC-NET will not be sufficient.
Challenges faced by young lawyers with respect to PhD Admission
- Not securing admission in Ph.D. after cracking UGC-NET because you cannot clear the Ph.D. entrance
- Not getting your topic approved for Ph.D. because you don’t know how to create a viable research proposal
- Not clearing interviews because of absence of adequate communication skills, confidence and knowledge before a senior interview panel
- Failing to crack interviews and proposals because of lack of adequate understanding of research methodology
Exam format
The format of Ph.D. entrance varies from University to University but the syllabus is common for the entrance exam.
