- The State Bar of California includes attorneys who have been educated abroad. They do not have to be citizens to be a licensed attorney in California, but they do have to fill out some extra paperwork. So, attorneys who want to migrate to the US or work remotely for clients in the US.
- Lawyers who are already in active law practice in a foreign country and are of good standing can take the California Bar Exam without any additional legal education.
- Law students who have just received their initial degree in law from a law school outside the US. They must establish their eligibility to take the bar exam by showing that their degrees are equivalent to a Juris Doctor (JD) degree awarded by an American Bar Association-approved or California-accredited law school in the US.
