Details of the Organization
Started in the year 2008, School of Law, SASTRA University aims to provide students
diverse knowledge in the fields of Social Studies, Business and Economics integrated with legal education. The University has prepared several legal professionals who play a decisive and critical leadership role in meeting various challenges. They do so not only as advocates practicing in courts, but also as judges, policy makers, public officials and civil society activists as well as corporate legal consultants in the private sector. SASTRA's legal education prepares capable professionals to meet the emerging challenges of working in globalized knowledge economy, in which the organization of law and legal practice are undergoing a paradigm shift. The University is also working closely with premier law schools abroad for meaningful internship and study abroad programmes.
Details of the Moot Court Competition
Mr. Nani Palkhivala was a multi-faceted personality-a lawyer par excellence, philanthropist, diplomat, author, and a pioneer in the field of law. Palkhivala was the epitome of persuasion, precision of argument, in depth understanding of law as well as analytical, strategic, charismatic, and successful advocacy.
There can be no better way of sustaining the memory of perhaps India’s most extraordinary advocate than by instituting an annual tax moot court competition in his name. The Nani Palkhivala Memorial National Tax Moot Court Competition hosted by School of Law, SASTRA Deemed University is a tribute to this great man.
Theme:
The moot proposition is based on Tax laws.
Rounds:
The competition shall comprise of a Memorial Selection Round and Oral Rounds. The competition shall be conducted in a hybrid-mode. The Pre-Quarter Final Rounds and the Quarter Final Rounds shall be conducted online. The Semi-Final
Rounds and Final Round shall be conducted offline at our university.
Dress Code:
- During Rounds:
- Men: Formal White Shirt, Black Trousers, Black Blazer, Black Tie, and Black Shoes.
- Women: Formal White Shirt, Black Trousers, Black Blazer, and Black Shoes.
- Within Campus:
- Men: Formal Wear.
- Women: Complete Indian Formals. Tracks and shorts will NOT be permitted inside the campus.
Accommodation, Transport & Food:
Details pertaining to Accommodation, Transport and Food for teams invited to compete in the Semi-Final Rounds shall be notified by the Organizing Committee.The participating teams must send a soft copy of the Travel Form to [email protected]. by 17th March, 2025.
Eligibility
All students enrolled in a 3-year LLB program or a 5-year integrated LLB program in a recognised University shall be eligible to participate in the 20 th Nani Palkhivala Memorial Tax Moot Court Competition. The team shall consist of a maximum of 3 people, with 2 Speakers and 1 Researcher.

Awards
- There shall be a trophy and a cash prize of Rs.50,000 for the Winner Team.
- There shall be a trophy and a cash prize of Rs.25,000 for the Runner-up Team.
- There shall be a trophy and a cash prize of Rs.5,000 for the Best Memorial.
- There shall be a trophy and a cash prize of Rs.5,000 for the Best Speaker.
- There shall be a trophy and a cash prize of Rs.5,000 for the Best Researcher.
- All participants shall be presented with Certificates of Participation and all the winners of the above-mentioned awards shall receive Certificates of Merit.
Registration Fees (if any)
A registration fee of Rs. 3540/- (inclusive of GST) must be made through a National Electronics Fund Transfer (NEFT) on or before 12th March, 2025.
