Citi is hiring for the position of Assistant Counsel with 2-5 years of experience to join their office in Mumbai. 

Role and Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and subject matter expertise to business leaders on a wide range of matters, including regulatory developments, commercial transactions, and operational initiatives.
• Participate in and advise on strategic projects, ensuring legal and regulatory risks are identified, assessed, and appropriately managed.
• Review and evaluate business proposals and transactions, applying a strong understanding of internal policies, industry standards, and legal frameworks.
• Collaborate with internal teams (Risk, Compliance, ICRM) and external counsel to drive coordinated and compliant outcomes.
• Monitor changes in relevant laws and regulations, proactively advising stakeholders on potential impacts and required actions.
• Assist in the development of policies and procedures to enhance legal risk management and ensure adherence to evolving regulatory expectations.
• Foster effective cross-functional communication and cooperation between Legal, Business, and Support Functions.
• Maintain high standards of ethical conduct, transparency, and accountability, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and policies.

Eligibility

• Experience: 2–5 years of relevant post-qualification experience, preferably within the financial services or banking sector.
• Legal Expertise: In-depth understanding of banking/financial regulations and experience advising on complex commercial or regulatory matters.
• Global Awareness: Familiarity with international legal frameworks and a strong grasp of cross-border legal considerations.
• Skills:
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with sound judgment and attention to detail.
• Licensing: Active Bar membership in good standing.
• Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree from a recognized institution.

Salary/Stipend
