Details of the Job/Internship
UPES is hiring for the position of Assistant Director / Deputy Director - Legal with 15 years of experience to join their campus in Dehradun.
Role and Responsibilities
- Contract Management
- Review and assess the legal implications of contracts and commitments made by the University.
- Prepare, draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contractual agreements supporting operations across functions such as real estate, IT, marketing, sales, maintenance, vendor relations, international collaborations, and finance.
- Provide strategic legal input for business transactions and mitigate associated legal risks.
- Litigation Management
- Monitor and manage ongoing litigation.
- Liaise effectively with external legal counsel.
- Maintain strong working relationships with statutory bodies, legal professionals, and stakeholders to resolve legal disputes efficiently.
- Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)
- Strategize and coordinate with external counsel on matters related to trademarks, copyrights, and other IP assets.
- Ensure proactive protection and enforcement of the University's intellectual property.
- Compliance & Policy Development
- Develop, review, and update internal policies aligned with regulatory standards.
- Ensure full compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, including those set by UGC, Bar Council of India, and other governing bodies.
- Monitor legal developments and advise management on necessary policy or operational changes.
- Right to Information (RTI)
- Collaborate with internal departments to draft timely and compliant responses to RTI applications.
- Ensure institutional transparency while maintaining compliance with applicable legal norms.

- Proven ability to work across teams and engage with senior stakeholders.
- Experience Required: Minimum 15 years.
- Education: LLB & CS (Company Secretary).
- Industry Background: Mandatory experience in the Education sector — either with a law firm specializing in education law or as part of an in-house legal team in an education institution.
