Details of the Job/Internship
HSBC is hiring an Assistant Legal Counsel with a minimum of 4 years of experience to join their legal team in Bengaluru.
Role and Responsibilities
- Review and negotiate standard trade terms and agreements including Deposit Account Control Agreements, Powers of Attorney, Indemnity Letters, and Waiver Letters.
- Collaborate with empaneled law firms on legal opinions for various facilities and transactions.
- Conduct due diligence on entities/customers in line with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure compliance with data privacy laws, GDPR, sanctions, AML regulations, and global banking standards.
- Execute end-to-end processing of legal requests including drafting, negotiating, updating databases, and archiving.
- Assist with process migration and the addition of new scopes of work.
- Prepare monthly management information and business decks.
- Maintain proper records for legal documents and produce timely reports.
- Manage requests independently from initiation to completion.
- Coordinate with various internal departments and exercise sound judgment.
- Provide pragmatic and cost-effective legal advice to the business.
- Ensure adherence to internal control standards and implementation of audit findings.
Eligibility
- Law degree from a recognized and reputed Law College/University in India or overseas.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in legal processes involving advisory, drafting, and vetting of agreements/contracts.
- Strong understanding of Corporate Law, Common Law, and Group Legal functions, especially in relation to the UK and Hong Kong.
- Proficiency in MS Office and experience in legal MIS creation and performance monitoring.
- Good interpretation and analytical judgment skills.
- Commercial and solutions-focused approach with sound legal drafting abilities.
- Effective communication skills and ability to coordinate with legal teams and stakeholders.
