Details of the Job/Internship
Cactus Communications is hiring an Assistant Manager, Legal to join its team in Mumbai. The role involves participation in a structured selection process comprising an initial recruiter screening, a technical assessment, and two to three interview rounds, including an in-person meeting. Applicants must have legal authorisation to work in the country where the role is advertised.
Role and Responsibilities
Contract Management:
- Draft, review, negotiate, and finalise a wide range of agreements, including MSAs, business agreements, vendor agreements, NDAs, settlement agreements, RFPs, term sheets, lease deeds, and other business contracts.
- Optimise contract management processes to improve efficiency and ensure compliance.
- Manage contracts across multiple international jurisdictions.
Stakeholder Management:
- Act as a trusted legal advisor to internal business teams on legal and compliance matters.
- Work closely with external counsel and consultants on critical legal issues.
Compliance and Policy Management:
- Draft, implement, monitor, and advise on corporate policies and SOPs in line with legal, regulatory, and industry standards.
- Track legislative changes and ensure compliance across jurisdictions.
Data Privacy and Protection:
- Ensure compliance with data protection regulations, including GDPR and local privacy laws.
- Oversee standardisation of data handling practices across the organisation.
Freelancer / Independent Contractor Management:
- Standardise contracts and policies for freelancers and independent contractors.
- Prepare responses to freelancer and independent contractor-related queries.
- Ensure agreements are legally sound and aligned with business objectives.
Technology Integration:
- Identify opportunities to use technology to streamline legal processes and operations.
- Leverage contract management tools to enhance efficiency and legal operations.
Intellectual Property Rights:
- Oversee protection, enforcement, and management of intellectual property assets across jurisdictions.
- Draft and review IP-related clauses, internal IP policies, copyright ownership statements, assignment agreements, brand usage guidelines, and confidentiality frameworks.
- Prepare legal notices and coordinate with external counsel on filings, renewals, oppositions, and infringement matters.
Process Ownership and Operational Excellence:
Develop templates, playbooks, FAQs, workflows, dashboards, and trackers for contracts, compliance, IP, and risk management.
Dispute Resolution and Litigation Support:
- Manage and respond to legal notices, demand letters, and pre-litigation matters.
- Liaise with external counsel on litigation strategy, documentation, and case updates.
- Maintain internal trackers and ensure timely submissions and responses.
Legal Research:
- Conduct legal research on cross-border regulations, commercial laws, and emerging areas such as AI, data protection, employment, and sectoral regulations.
- Prepare concise research notes for business leadership when required.
Risk Management and Legal Advisory:
- Identify legal risks and provide proactive mitigation strategies.
- Review new initiatives, business models, and processes to flag legal implications early.
- Provide practical, business-focused legal advice to support decision-making.
Eligibility
- Bachelor of Law (LL.B.) with 7–9 years of relevant work experience.
- Experience in business partnering and working closely with internal teams to address legal issues and deliver practical, business-aligned solutions.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to simplify legal concepts for non-legal stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and manage high volumes of work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organisational and multitasking skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to deliver fast closures with efficiency.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated expertise in international corporate and contractual laws.
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Highly motivated, independent, and results-oriented mindset.
