Details of the Job/Internship

Khaitan & Co. is hiring an Associate-Direct Tax with experience of 1 to 2 years to join their office in Delhi.

Role and Responsibilities

• Legal Research.
• Reviewing, drafting, and negotiating legally binding agreements on behalf of the client.
• Basic knowledge on preparation and execution of wills and Indian family law, power of attorney for medical incapacitation.
• Succession planning through private family trusts to ensure asset protection and carving out personal assets from business and commercial liabilities.
• Advising trusts, knowledge of mitigation of existing or potential conflict resolution through the execution of family arrangements and family settlements.
• Knowledge of trusts, taxation, wills and other testamentary instruments, obtaining probates, approvals from regulators, advice of corporate and securities laws and court-related dispute resolution.

Eligibility

• Qualified LLB or LLM from a premier law school in India / abroad (qualified to work in India).
• 1-2 years of demonstrated success on trusts, wills, family law and succession planning and taxation with a Tier 1 law firm.
• Exhibits strong practice skills including (a) oral and written advocacy; (b) contract drafting; (c) analyzing and communicating technical matters
• A stickler for timelines of assignments and a multi-tasker able to handle multiple assignments simultaneously.
• Solution-oriented approach with proven ability to close transactions independently with minimal supervision.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to communicate to all "clients" (internal and external).
• Solid understanding on a wide range of legal subjects, ability to build on this knowledge, spot issues and bring in specialists as needed.
• Drive for technical superiority by staying abreast of Law developments and being the go-to subject matter expert.
