Details of the Job/Internship
SM Legal Advocates & Solicitors is hiring a Junior Associate – Indirect Tax Litigation & Advisory with a minimum of 1 year of post-qualification experience in the tax domain to join their office in Kolkata. The role offers exposure to indirect tax advisory and litigation, with mentorship from senior advocates.
Role and Responsibilities
- Brief senior advocates on case matters and prepare comprehensive case summaries.
- Conduct legal research on indirect tax matters and prepare research notes.
- Appear independently for case mentioning and procedural matters before courts.
- Draft legal opinions, writ petitions, appeals, and replies.
- Ensure timely preparation and submission of all legal documents.
- Assist senior advocates during hearings and prepare hearing notes.
- Maintain organized case files and track progress and deadlines.
Eligibility
- Law degree (LLB/BA LLB/BBA LLB) from a recognized institution.
- Mandatory: Enrolled with the Bar Council of West Bengal.
- Minimum 1 year of post-qualification experience in the tax domain.
- Strong understanding of indirect tax laws (GST, Service Tax, Customs, Excise).
- Excellent legal research, drafting, and analytical abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple cases.
- Proficiency in legal databases and research tools.
- Good command over English and the local language.
