Details of the Job/Internship
SM Legal Advocates & Solicitors is hiring a Junior Associate – Indirect Tax Litigation & Advisory with a minimum of 1 year of post-qualification experience to join their office in Kolkata.
Role and Responsibilities
- Brief senior advocates on case matters and prepare case summaries and updates.
- Conduct legal research on indirect tax laws and analyse case laws, statutes, and regulations.
- Appear independently for case mentioning and handle procedural matters and urgent applications.
- Draft legal opinions, writ petitions, appeals, replies, rejoinders, and other legal documents.
- Ensure timely preparation, review, and submission of documents.
- Assist senior advocates during hearings and prepare hearing notes and briefs.
- Coordinate with clients for hearing preparation.
- Maintain organized case files and track case progress and deadlines.
Eligibility
- Law degree (LL.B./BA LL.B./BBA LL.B.) from a recognized institution.
- Enrolled with the Bar Council of West Bengal.
- Minimum 1 year of post-qualification experience in the tax domain.
- Strong understanding of indirect tax laws (GST, Service Tax, Customs, Excise).
- Excellent research, drafting, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple cases.
- Proficiency in legal research tools and databases.
