Details of the Job/Internship
Rakuten Symphony is hiring a Legal Counsel with a minimum of 6 years’ post-qualification experience to manage contracts, provide corporate advisory, ensure compliance, and support dispute resolution.
Role and Responsibilities
Contract Management & Negotiation:
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, vendor and partnership contracts, and employment documents.
- Ensure contracts are legally sound, commercially practical, and aligned with internal policies.
- Support cross-functional teams to integrate legal review into business timelines.
Corporate Advisory & Business Partnership:
- Provide practical legal advice on commercial operations, regulatory requirements, and workforce management.
- Partner with HR on employment policies, workforce compliance, and related matters.
- Assist in M&A transactions and strategic partnerships, including due diligence, documentation, and post-merger integration.
Compliance & Governance:
- Monitor regulatory and legal developments; update internal policies accordingly.
- Support internal and external audits, including legal and compliance reviews.
- Maintain and enforce governance frameworks to uphold legal standards and ethics.
Dispute Resolution:
- Manage litigation, arbitration, and pre-litigation disputes with external counsel.
- Advise teams on dispute prevention and resolution strategies.
- Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Collaborate across departments and geographies to support business strategy.
- Represent Legal in cross-functional settings, engaging with senior and executive decision-makers.
Eligibility
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Law (NLU or equivalent preferred).
- Bar Council membership preferred but not mandatory.
- Minimum 6 years post-qualification experience in telecom, IT, or ITES sectors.
- Experience in international companies or law firms is highly valued.
- Expertise in drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts.
- Knowledge of employment law, regulatory compliance, and dispute resolution.
- Strong interpersonal skills, cultural awareness, and teamwork.
- Excellent judgment, integrity, and discretion in fast-paced, matrixed organizations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with legal technology tools is a plus.
Salary/Stipend
