Details of the Job/Internship

Weekday (YC W21) is hiring for the position of Chief Legal Officer with experience in both corporate and litigation law, with exposure to civil, commercial, and criminal law to join their Bengaluru office. 

Role and Responsibilities

1. Provide expert legal counsel to the executive leadership team and the board on all matters impacting the company.
2. Lead and oversee legal compliance, ensuring the company adheres to local, national, and international regulations.
3. Manage civil, commercial, and criminal litigation, including strategy development, risk assessment, and coordination with external legal counsel.
4. Oversee corporate governance matters, including legal risk management, corporate structuring, and policy development.
5. Negotiate and review contracts, ensuring they align with company goals while minimizing legal risk.
6. Stay up-to-date on regulatory changes and develop proactive strategies to ensure legal compliance.
7. Lead internal investigations and advise on criminal law matters where necessary.
8. Manage relationships with external law firms and legal advisors.
9. Develop and implement legal strategies to protect the company’s interests in disputes or litigation.

Eligibility

1. JD or LLB from an accredited law school.
2. Bar admission in the relevant jurisdiction.
3. Experience in both corporate and litigation law, with exposure to civil, commercial, and criminal law.
4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
5. Experience in highly regulated industries.
6. Knowledge of international law and cross-border transactions.
