Details of the Job/Internship
American Bureau of Shipping is hiring a Counsel, Associate with experience of 1 to 3 years to join their office in Singapore.
Role and Responsibilities
- Participates in the development and interpretation of ABS policies.
- May provide direction and instruction to support staff, review their progress, and make recommendations concerning the evaluation of their work.
- At the direction of the Senior Vice President & General Counsel, the Vice President & Deputy General Counsel and Associate General Counsel conducts legal projects and research.
- Maintain business registration and corporate secretarial records of ABS entities within the region (Pacific, Middle East and Taiwan)
- Provides counsel and advice on a variety of legal matters including employment and labor, intellectual property, data privacy, insurance, litigation and bankruptcy matters.
- Drafts, reviews and negotiate contracts and other legal documents.
- Author’s correspondence, legal memoranda and reports.
- Under supervision, works with outside legal counsel in various legal matters.
- Anticipate and identity legal issues and proactively develop effective and practical legal strategies and solutions.
- Occasional travel within the region.
Eligibility
- Prior experience in the marine industry preferred.
- Proficient in Mandarin (written and spoken).
- The ability to independently review, advise on and/or negotiate detailed, sensitive legal issues with internal stakeholders, clients and other interested parties.
- The human relations skills necessary to organize and manage the activities of support staff.
- Typically requires 1-3 years of relevant post-qualification experience.
- L.L.B. or J.D. in Jurisprudence.
- Admitted to practice law in Singapore.
Salary/Stipend
