Details of the Job/Internship
Baringa is hiring a Data Privacy Counsel with experience of 4+ years to join their Data & AI Compliance team. The role involves supporting the firm’s global Digital and AI services by providing legal guidance on data privacy, governance, and responsible AI initiatives.
Role and Responsibilities
- Support the continuous development of data privacy programme components such as DPIA processes, TIA processes, records of processing, training programmes, and policies or standards.
- Provide day-to-day legal advice on global data protection laws including international transfers, transparency requirements, lawful basis analyses, cookies and marketing compliance, and data subject rights.
- Support operational privacy matters including data subject access requests, incident or breach response, and related escalations.
- Develop and improve practical processes, guidance materials, templates, and playbooks to support compliance.
- Support vendor due diligence processes related to data privacy and responsible AI considerations.
- Advise commercial teams on privacy and AI-related contractual positions and negotiation strategies.
- Track programme metrics and prepare reports for leadership.
- Monitor regulatory developments and translate them into practical actions for the organisation.
- Build relationships across business sectors and collaborate with cross-functional teams to support compliance initiatives.
Eligibility
- Qualified solicitor or barrister in England and Wales, or in a Commonwealth or common law jurisdiction, with 4+ years of post-qualification experience or equivalent relevant experience.
- Experience advising in a fast-moving environment, preferably within a technology business with a global presence.
- Strong drafting skills including policies, guidance, contract positions, and regulator or customer responses.
- Ability to balance legal risk with commercial priorities.
- Organised and delivery-focused with the ability to manage processes and track work effectively.
- Experience supporting product or technology teams on legal, data protection, privacy, and AI governance matters is an advantage.
