Tata Communications is hiring a Deputy General Manager – Corporate Legal to join its Legal Team at Mumbai. The role is responsible for providing tactical and strategic legal support for commercial and corporate transactions, advising on commercial legal matters, negotiations, disputes, and potential disputes, and acting as a process owner for commercial legal processes. The position reports to the AVP, Legal, and focuses on India, Middle East, Central Africa, and global procurement matters, ensuring efficient, risk-aware, and cost-effective legal support.
Role and Responsibilities
- Acting as the main escalation and supervision point for the commercial legal team.
- Advising on, drafting, and negotiating standard and non-standard commercial agreements with minimal supervision.
- Resolving complex and general commercial transactions and disputes.
- Coordinating the commercial team’s use of external counsel and legal support from other departments.
- Conducting legal research and preparing memoranda, opinions, and position papers.
- Acting as the main liaison for banking and financing transactions.
- Supporting contract lifecycle management, including interpretation and amendments.
- Assisting operations with the Contract Management System and ensuring coordination across business units.
- Proactively managing legal risks and supporting implementation of a risk registry.
- Spearheading improvement projects to streamline documentation and contracting processes.
- Creating, maintaining, and updating standard template agreements and documentation.
- Implementing processes, procedures, and documentation for new services.
- Supporting new business initiatives, products, and services with strategic legal input.
- Managing team structure, recruitment, performance reviews, training, and development.
- Building strong relationships with business, sales, and senior management teams.
Eligibility
- Qualified lawyer.
- Strong business acumen with understanding of commercial operations and financial principles.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
- Analytical mindset with proficiency in legal and financial analysis.
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Knowledge of legal aspects relating to commercial contracts and compliance requirements.
- Proactive and adaptable approach to work.
