Tata Communications is hiring a Deputy General Manager – Corporate Legal to join their office in Mumbai. The role involves providing legal support to business teams for commercial and corporate transactions, advising on commercial legal matters, negotiating transactions, managing disputes, and overseeing commercial legal processes. The position also includes leading legal aspects across India, the Middle East, Central Africa, and global procurement matters, and reporting to the AVP, Legal.
Role and Responsibilities
- Act as the main escalation and supervision point for the Commercial Team.
- Advise on and resolve matters, including contract drafting and negotiation.
- Coordinate the commercial team’s use of external counsel and legal support from other departments.
- Conduct legal research and analysis, and prepare memoranda, opinions, and position papers.
- Act as the liaison point for banking and financing transactions.
- Resolve complex commercial transactions with minimal supervision.
- Support the Company’s Contract Management System and coordinate with various business units.
- Identify and implement new processes to expedite legal support and manage risks.
- Lead departmental improvement projects related to documentation and contracting processes.
- Implement processes, procedures, and documentation for new services.
- Maintain the Company’s standard template agreements and related documents.
- Review, draft, and negotiate standard and non-standard commercial agreements.
- Advise the business and sales teams on relevant issues and supervise team members.
- Manage multiple matters and ensure timely closure of transactions.
- Provide support on in-life contract matters, including interpretation of terms and amendments.

- Strong business acumen and understanding of commercial operations and financial principles.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Analytical mindset with proficiency in financial analysis and reporting.
- Strategic thinking and strong problem-solving abilities.
- Knowledge of legal aspects of commercial contracts and compliance requirements.
- Proactive and adaptable, with a track record of achieving commercial objectives.
- Qualified lawyer with relevant experience.
