Details of the Job/Internship
Tata Communications is hiring a Deputy General Manager – Corporate Legal with 12–15 years of experience to join its legal team in Mumbai. This is a tactical role responsible for supporting business teams on commercial and corporate transactions, advising on and resolving commercial legal matters, negotiating contracts, managing disputes and potential disputes, and acting as the process owner for commercial legal processes. The role involves leading legal aspects relating to commercial matters for India, the Middle East, Central Africa, and global procurement, while reporting to the AVP, Legal.
Role and Responsibilities
- Act as the main escalation and supervision point for the commercial legal team.
- Advise on, draft, and negotiate standard and non-standard commercial contracts.
- Resolve complex commercial transactions with minimal supervision.
- Lead and coordinate use of external counsel and legal support across departments.
- Act as the main liaison for banking and financing transactions.
- Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda, opinions, and position papers.
- Support and manage in-life contract matters, including interpretation and amendments.
- Oversee and improve documentation, contracting processes, and legal workflows.
- Implement processes, procedures, templates, and documentation for new services.
- Maintain standard template agreements and related documentation.
- Ensure strong coordination with business units, sales teams, and management.
- Proactively manage legal risks and advise on risk registry implementation.
- Manage, mentor, recruit, and develop team members, including performance reviews and training.
- Support new business initiatives, product launches, and cross-functional projects.
Eligibility
- Law degree from a reputable university or institution.
- Qualified to practise law in India.
- Minimum 12–15 years of post-qualification experience in corporate and commercial law.
- Experience in negotiating global or multi-jurisdictional contracts and transactions.
- Strong business acumen and understanding of commercial operations and financial principles.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proactive, adaptable, and strategic mindset.
