Details of the Job/Internship
Pocket FM is hiring for the position of Senior Director - Intellectual Property with 15-20 years of experience to join their office in Bengaluru.
Role and Responsibilities
- Content Acquisition & IP Creation Strategy: Lead the legal strategy for all content acquisition and original IP creation initiatives, ensuring robust chain-of-title documentation and protection.
- IP Policy & Implementation: Develop, set, and implement comprehensive IP policies across all stages of content workflows, including writing, production, publishing, and adaptation.
- IP Enforcement & Takedowns: Spearhead IP enforcement actions and manage takedown notices (e.g., copyright infringements, piracy) across various platforms. Oversee and manage external counsels for ongoing disputes and litigation as required.
- Licensing & Co-Ownership Models: Structure and advise on complex licensing agreements and co-ownership models for both original and adapted intellectual property.
- Commercial Agreement IP Advice: Provide expert advice on the IP aspects of commercial agreements, including joint development agreements and technology transfers.
- Business Advisory: Counsel business teams on critical IP matters such as format rights, character IPs, audio-to-video adaptations, and international syndication strategies.
- Content Rights Portfolio Management: Build and meticulously manage Pocket FM’s India content rights portfolio, diligently tracking ownership, duration, geographical scope, and specific format rights.
- Legal Playbook Development: Create and maintain comprehensive legal playbooks tailored for creative, production, and publishing teams.
- IP Awareness & Education: Cultivate an IP-aware culture within the organization by consistently counseling and educating internal partners on various intellectual property issues, including patents, clean room development, and licensing intricacies.
Eligibility
- Experience: 15 - 20 years of experience in IP law, with a minimum of 5 years specifically in a media or entertainment company, production house, studio, or content platform.
- Infringement & Litigation Track Record: A proven track record of effectively handling takedowns, infringement notices, or litigation cases related to digital content.
- Legal Expertise: Deep and comprehensive knowledge of Indian copyright law, digital media regulations, and content licensing frameworks.
- Negotiation & Rights Management: Strong negotiation skills and extensive experience in managing content rights and royalties.
- Creative Legal Interpretation: Ability to interpret scripts and content creatively from a legal standpoint, balancing protection with artistic intent.
- Business Acumen: Strong commercial acumen, creative sensitivity, and the ability to effectively balance legal risk with business agility in a fast-paced environment.
