Details of the Job/Internship

Spencer's Retail is hiring a Head of Legal with 15 years of experience to join their office in Kolkata, West Bengal. 

Role and Responsibilities

• Litigation Management: Lead all pending civil, criminal, and consumer litigation matters while developing comprehensive legal strategies.
• External Coordination: Manage relationships with external counsels, advocates, and law firms to ensure efficient case tracking and documentation.
• Dispute Resolution: Handle a variety of conflicts including landlord-tenant, vendor, employment, and contract disputes.
• Alternative Dispute Resolution: Supervise all arbitration, mediation, and settlement negotiations for the organization.
• Regulatory Liaison: Oversee the filing of complaints and FIRs while coordinating with police and regulatory authorities.
• Statutory Compliance: Ensure company-wide adherence to the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSAI), Legal Metrology Act, and Labor Laws.
• Contract Administration: Draft, review, and negotiate high-stakes commercial agreements, including lease, supplier, and service contracts.
• Strategic Advisory: Provide legal support for commercial negotiations and critical business initiatives to mitigate organizational risk.

Eligibility

• Experience: Minimum of 15 years of experience in a corporate legal role, specifically within the Retail or FMCG industries.
• Legal Knowledge: Extensive understanding of Food Laws, Litigation, and Commercial and Contract Law.
• Leadership: Proven ability to lead a legal department and manage complex multi-format retail legal requirements.
