Lokal is India’s largest regional content and services platform, built for over 500 million internet users from Tier 2 and beyond. Founded by IIT alumni in 2018, Lokal began as a local content discovery platform and has since expanded into a dynamic ecosystem solving everyday problems of Bharat through AI, local language access, and a house-of-apps approach.

Details of the Job/Internship

Lokal is hiring for the position of In-House Legal Counsel with 2-5 years of experience to join their office in Bengaluru. 

Role and Responsibilities

1. Contract Management

• Independently manage end-to-end contract lifecycle—from drafting to negotiation and execution.
• Handle agreements with vendors, partners, service providers, etc.
• Maintain a contract repository and track renewal timelines, SLAs, and other key terms.

2. Intellectual Property (IP) Management

• Oversee IP and trademark filings; ensure timely renewals and compliance.
• Liaise with external counsel for effective trademark and copyright protection.
• Vet submissions to IP authorities.

3. Due Diligence

• Coordinate investor and vendor due diligence processes.
• Compile, verify, and share required legal and compliance documentation.

4. Regulatory Compliance

• Ensure compliance with applicable laws, especially those related to digital platforms, labor laws, and startups.
• Support company secretarial compliance and governance.
• Review and update HR policies, offer letters, and other employment-related documents.

5. App Governance

• Draft and maintain app-specific Terms of Use, Privacy Policies, and Community Guidelines.
• Monitor policy changes and ensure alignment with applicable tech and data privacy regulations.

6. Legal Documentation & Notices

• Draft and respond to legal notices, police inquiries, or government communications.
• Support litigation and recovery processes in coordination with external counsel.

7. Legal Research & Advisory

• Conduct legal research on regulatory and commercial law issues.
• Advise internal stakeholders on emerging legal risks and business implications.

Eligibility

• Education: LL.B. or equivalent degree from a reputed institution.
• Experience: 2–5 years in an in-house counsel role or top-tier law firm.
• Skills:
• Strong contract drafting and negotiation abilities.
• Familiarity with IP, regulatory, employment, and data protection laws.
• Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced startup environment.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Salary/Stipend
