National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is the umbrella organization for operating retail payments and settlement systems in India. It is an initiative of the Reserve Bank of India and Indian Banks’ Association to create a robust payment and settlement infrastructure in the country.

Details of the Job/Internship

NPCI is hiring for a Senior Legal Role (Incharge Legal) with a minimum of 12 years PQE to join their legal team in Mumbai.

Role and Responsibilities

• Advisory:
  • Provide legal support to business, product, and functional teams.
  • Advise on legal and regulatory compliance for local and international payment laws.
  • Assist in structuring transactions and drafting policies.
• Documentation Management:
  • Draft, review, and negotiate complex, high-risk agreements with domestic and international parties.
  • Standardize legal agreements across business verticals.
  • Work with external counsels on commercial and policy-related legal matters.
  • Implement and manage the legal documentation management system.
• Litigation Management:
  • Handle corporate and consumer litigation.
  • Draft legal submissions including counter affidavits, written statements, and replies to legal notices.
  • Manage IP litigation and oversee the organization’s IP portfolio.
  • Coordinate with external legal counsels and formulate a litigation management system.
• Research & Administrative:
  • Monitor and update on changes in laws and regulations applicable to the payments sector.
  • Prepare legal reports and committee notes to update senior management on legal developments.
  • Participate in internal and industry forums where legal input is required.
• Compliance and Risk Management:
  • Mitigate legal risks and ensure adherence to internal compliance frameworks.
  • Interpret regulatory guidelines to assist compliance and product teams.
  • Use AI tools for contract management, legal research, and compliance tracking.

Eligibility

• Qualification: LL.B. (preferably 5-year integrated course).
• Experience: Minimum 12 years post-qualification.
