The Indira Fellowship is an initiative of the Indian Youth Congress, a frontal youth wing of the Indian National Congress.
The Indian National Congress (INC) has historically emphasized and promoted women's participation in politics. The party has made efforts to encourage & empower women in various aspects of governance, including political representation. The INC has implemented policies & initiatives to ensure greater participation and representation of women in decision-making processes.
Details of the Fellowship/Scholarship
The Indian Youth Congress has announced applications for the "Indira Fellowship", a 9-month long full-time fellowship where selected participants will receive mentorship from seasoned political leaders, training modules on policy-making, grassroots campaigning, & leadership development.

The Fellowship (From September 2023) will be a 9-month, full-time stipend program.
Role of Fellow
The selected fellows will be given responsibility in their respective districts. Initially, they will be assigned one block to organise the Indira Activity Center (Shakti Club) in Panchayat, Urban Basti/Wards & Colleges. Based on their performance, the role will be further promoted to assembly in-charges to district in-charges.
The Indira Activity Center (IAC): To build a Women Activity Center in every Village Panchayat, Urban Basti & College/University Campus. These centers will be called as the ‘Shakti Club’ or Indira Activity Center (IAC). The centre will work in three domains - Awareness, Sisterhood & Nation Building through participating in democracy.
Note: Post the Fellowship Program, the fellows will be given an opportunity to be inducted in the Congress Party or will be considered for electoral roles in their area.
What to Expect?
Fellows over the period of 9 months will get hands-on experience working with leaders, women's organizations, the local body's elected women representatives, NGOs & other women influencers of that district and be part of the political processes.
Fellows will have to travel extensively in both urban & rural areas across their respective districts/Loksabha & interact with multiple stakeholders. It is a must to be a good communicator & be tech-savvy to be able to execute tasks on the ground.
Remuneration: Fellows will receive a monthly stipend.
Eligibility
The fellowship is a platform for women who are aspiring to be leaders or emerging leaders in the field of politics and governance. We highly encourage women from disadvantaged groups and marginalised communities to apply for this fellowship.
