Details of the Job/Internship

Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan Attorneys is hiring an Indirect Tax – Customs Litigation Associate with experience of 0–2 years to join their office in Mumbai/Hyderabad.

Role and Responsibilities

• Handle advisory and litigation engagements pertaining to Customs, Foreign Trade Policy, Special Economic Zones, and related subjects.
• Brief and assist seniors in appearances before tax authorities, Tribunal, High Court, and Supreme Court.
• Draft legal opinions, replies, and tax appeals ensuring clarity and consistency while safeguarding client interests.
• Stay updated on legal developments and contribute to knowledge initiatives such as case law digests, litigation meetings, article writing, conferences, and calls.
• Identify and discuss technical issues with clients while being mindful of firm risk issues.
• Prepare submissions, replies to notices, and appeals, and assist in representations during appeals.
• Execute work across multiple clients and assume near independent responsibility for smaller clients.
• Develop rapport with middle management layers of clients.
• Stay updated on firm and competitor activities and general business trends.
• Identify new opportunities for existing clients and communicate them to seniors.
• Network internally within the firm to understand issues impacting clients.
• Contribute to the firm’s knowledge management activities and stay updated on developments in tax and other laws.

Eligibility

• Law graduate from a reputed law school with a strong academic record.
• 0–2 years of post-qualification experience in indirect tax.
• Prior experience in Customs, Foreign Trade Policy, Special Economic Zones, or related areas preferred.
