Details of the Job/Internship

Rakuten Symphony is hiring an IP Specialist with 4–7 years of experience to join their global IP team in Bengaluru. 

Role and Responsibilities

• Own and drive a Business Unit-aligned patent portfolio strategy, ensuring it matches product and technology roadmaps.
• Independently collaborate with engineering teams to extract and protect inventions related to 5G, 6G, and cloud-native software.
• Manage the end-to-end patent lifecycle, including drafting, filing, and prosecution across US, EP, and IN jurisdictions.
• Devise strategies for the Standard Essential Patent (SEP) portfolio in coordination with standards delegates.
• Perform Freedom to Operate (FTO) analysis and develop claim charts to identify licensing opportunities or infringement risks.
• Coordinate with external counsel and global IP team members to ensure portfolio hygiene and high-quality filings.
• Support patent licensing projects and help mitigate third-party IP risks.
• Conduct brainstorming sessions and training to increase IP awareness and encourage invention disclosures within R&D teams.

Eligibility

• Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Computer, IT, or Telecommunications Engineering. A degree in Law (LLB) is a plus.
• Professional Credential: Must be a Qualified Indian Patent Agent.
• Experience: 4–7 years in building IP portfolios, preferably in an in-house setting or a top-tier law firm.
• Domain Expertise: Significant exposure to 5G/6G domains, networking, AI, and SEPs (O-RAN Alliance or 3GPP).
• Competencies: Strong proficiency in international patent laws (US, EP, IN) and the ability to mine inventions from complex technical data.
• Communication: Excellent networking skills to influence and manage global stakeholders across different time zones.
