The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India was established on 12 October, 1993. The statute under which it is established is the Protection of Human Rights Act (PHRA), 1993 as amended by the Protection of Human Rights (Amendment) Act, 2006.
Details of the Job/Internship
The National Human Rights Commission is inviting applications for the four-week Summer Internship Programme 2025. It will commence from 16th June 2025 to 11th July 2025.
Interns participating in the Summer Internship Programme (SIP) 2025 will receive the following facilities:
- Intern Kit: Includes NHRC reading materials.
- Identity Card: Temporary ID for the duration of the internship.
- Library Access: Interns can use NHRC's library resources.
- Internet Facilities: Available for research and project work.
- Meals: Tea, snacks, and lunch on all working days. Packed lunch provided for field visits.
- Travel Allowance: Sleeper AC3 Tier train fare reimbursement for students traveling from outside Delhi.
- Stipend: Rs. 12,000 upon successful completion of the internship.
- Accommodation & Transport: Interns need to arrange their own stay and local travel.
Selection Criteria:
- Attested mark-sheets from Class X onwards, signed by the HoD/Dean/Principal.
- Letter of Recommendation (LOR) in the prescribed format (Annexure I).
- Self-attested caste/disability certificate (if applicable).
- Reservation: Applicable as per Government of India guidelines.
- State Representation: Efforts made to include students from various States/UTs based on merit.
- Exclusion: Students who have already attended NHRC’s regular Summer/Winter Internship Programmes are not eligible.
Role and Responsibilities
- Sessions: Around 70–75 interactive sessions covering various human rights issues.
- Research Project: Interns will work on human rights-related research projects.
- Book Review: Critical analysis of human rights literature.
- Films & Discussions: Screenings on topics like child labor, trafficking, elder rights, health & education, followed by discussions.
- Field Visits: Trips to police stations, jails, NGOs, Parliament, National Commissions, Supreme Court, etc.
- Interaction: Engagement with NHRC Chairperson & Members for valuable insights.
Eligibility
- Must have completed 1st year and be pursuing 2nd or 3rd year of LLB (3-year course).
- Must have completed 3 years (or Semester VI) of 5-year BA LLB courses and be in 4th or 5th year.
- Those pursuing LL.M., PG Diploma in Human Rights, MA in Human Rights.
- Final year students of Political Science, Sociology, Social Work, Criminology, Public Administration, Rural Development, History, Economics, Commerce, Anthropology, Mass Communication, International Relations, and related Social Sciences disciplines.
- University Requirement: Students must be enrolled in regular courses from UGC-recognized universities.
- Academic Requirement: Must have at least 65% marks in Class XII & all subsequent semesters.
- Age Limit: Not more than 28 years as of 1st May 2025.
Salary/Stipend
Stipend: Rs. 12,000 upon successful completion of the internship.
