Details of the Organization

Land Rights Initiative (LRI) was created in November 2014 as an institutional space for building systematic knowledge on issues of law and justice relating to land and other social and economic rights that are essential for living a life with dignity under Article 21 of the Constitution. LRI currently houses research projects on “mapping land legislation in India”, using “data analytics on legal texts”, “right to development”, and “Climate Justice”.

Details of the Job/Internship

Land Rights Initiative (LRI) is inviting applications for their internship in New Delhi.

Duration and Modality of Internship:

• The internship is for a minimum duration of one month, with the option of extension, subject to mutual availability and project requirements.
• This is a full-time, offline, in-person internship based in Delhi. No remote or hybrid arrangements are available. Applicants should apply only if they are able to commit to a physical, in-person internship for the full duration.
• LRI is hiring student interns on a rolling basis for the period February 2026 to July 2026. Applicants may apply for internship dates falling within this period. Each internship engagement will be for a minimum of one month.

Role and Responsibilities

• Legal and policy research on land rights and related issues;
• Reviewing and summarising legislation, case law, and policy documents;
• Assisting with literature reviews and research writing.
• Qualitative and quantitative research on land, and related social and economic rights;
• Assisting with literature reviews, data collection, and basic data analysis;
• Supporting research documentation and writing.

Eligibility

• Enrolled in a 5-year B.A. LL.B./B.B.A. LL.B./B.Sc. LL.B. programme (3rd year or above) or a 3-year LL.B. programme (2nd year or above), with relevant policy-sector internship experience.
• Proficiency in legal research using databases such as Manupatra and SCC Online, law commentaries/books, and government sources.
• Ability to summarise judgments and legislation into clear, precise, and concise notes, with strong writing and communication skills.
