Lex Works (Advocates and Solicitors) is hiring for the position of Junior Associate with 1-2 years of experience to join their office in Delhi.
Role and Responsibilities
- Drafting Legal Documents: Prepare, review, and file writ petitions, replies, rejoinders, applications, and other legal documents for cases in the Supreme Court, High Courts, and tribunals such as the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT), Authority for Advance Rulings (AAR), and other relevant forums.
- Case Management: Independently manage cases from initial consultation to final adjudication, including strategizing case approaches, conducting legal research, and preparing case briefs.
- Court Appearances: Represent clients independently before the Supreme Court, High Courts, and tribunals, presenting arguments, examining witnesses, and handling procedural matters.
- Legal Research: Conduct thorough research on taxation laws (e.g., Income Tax Act, GST laws) and civil litigation matters, including case laws, statutes, and precedents, to support case preparation and arguments.
- Client Interaction: Communicate with clients to understand their legal issues, provide updates on case progress, and offer sound legal advice on taxation and civil matters.
- Compliance and Advisory: Advise clients on compliance with taxation laws and regulations, including tax planning, assessments, and appeals.
- Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate and organized case files, ensuring all documentation is up-to-date and compliant with court requirements.
- Collaboration: Work closely with senior advocates, paralegals, and other team members to ensure seamless case progression and knowledge sharing.
- Stay Updated: Keep abreast of changes in taxation laws, civil procedure codes, and judicial precedents to provide informed and current legal solutions.
Eligibility
- Educational Background: Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from a recognized university. A Master’s degree in Law (LL.M.) with a focus on taxation or civil law is an advantage.
- Bar Enrollment: Must be enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of India and eligible to practice in Indian courts.
- Experience: 1-2 years of hands-on experience in taxation law (direct and indirect taxes, such as Income Tax, GST, Customs, etc.) and civil litigation, with a proven track record of drafting legal documents and appearing in courts or tribunals.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficient in drafting complex legal documents, including writ petitions, replies, and rejoinders.
- Strong knowledge of the Code of Civil Procedure (CPC), Indian Evidence Act, and taxation statutes.
- Familiarity with e-filing systems and court procedures for the Supreme Court, High Courts, and tribunals.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective advocacy and client interaction.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to develop case strategies.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple cases simultaneously.
- High attention to detail and organizational skills for precise documentation and case management.
- Professional demeanor and confidence to appear before courts and tribunals independently.
