Details of the Job/Internship
Astro Offshore is hiring a Junior Legal Associate with experience of 2–3 years to join their office in Dubai. The role involves supporting the company’s commercial and operational activities by reviewing and negotiating maritime contracts, managing legal documentation, coordinating with external counsel, and assisting with dispute management.
Role and Responsibilities
- Review and analyse tender documents and charter party agreements.
- Draft, negotiate, and finalise contracts with clients following tender awards.
- Ensure contractual terms align with business objectives and legal requirements.
- Review, negotiate, and finalise shipbuilding contracts with shipyards.
- Manage legal aspects of vessel sale and purchase agreements.
- Coordinate with shipbrokers during vessel delivery and closing procedures.
- Draft and negotiate Shareholders’ Agreements and Joint Venture Agreements and related documentation.
- Support the development of partnerships with local entities across jurisdictions while safeguarding company interests.
- Support early-stage dispute resolution and review legal notices or pleadings.
- Coordinate with external counsel and assist with litigation strategy.
- Conduct legal research and maintain litigation trackers and case summaries.
- Draft and review NDAs, commission agreements, and internal legal documents.
- Liaise with external legal advisors and support management with legal reporting and documentation.
Eligibility
- 2–3 years PQE as a qualified lawyer in India or the UK.
- Experience in maritime or offshore legal matters, including charter party agreements, shipbuilding, and vessel sale and purchase contracts.
- Strong experience in contract drafting, negotiation, and legal analysis.
- Knowledge of marine insurance, arbitration, and dispute resolution.
- Ability to manage multiple legal matters in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- High attention to detail and strong analytical abilities.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B.) from a recognised university.
- Qualified to practice law in India or the UK (mandatory).
- LL.M. in Maritime Law or a related specialisation is an advantage.
