The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) is a quasi-judicial body in India that adjudicates issues relating to Indian companies. The tribunal, established under the Companies Act 2013, was constituted on 1 June 2016 by the government of India and is based on the recommendation of the V. Balakrishna Eradi committee on law relating to the insolvency and the winding up of companies.
Details of the Job/Internship
The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) is inviting applications from Eligible candidates having qualifications and experience for engagement of Law Research Associates in various Benches of National Company Law Tribunal purely on contractual assignment.
Role and Responsibilities
- Reading case files, preparing case summaries, notes, and chronologies of events.
- Conducting research on facts and law as assigned by the Hon’ble President/Member.
- Researching case laws, articles, papers, and assisting in judgment preparation, corrections, and editing.
- Staying updated with key rulings from the Supreme Court, High Courts, NCLT, and NCLAT.
- Attending court proceedings, taking notes of counsel arguments, and researching citations.
- Verifying final orders for omissions or errors in arguments, facts, grammar, or sentence construction.
- Verifying precedents, party names, and accuracy of quotations in final judgments.
- Organizing and maintaining case files efficiently.
- Assisting in drafting research papers, academic work, speeches, and preparing for conferences.
- Being familiar with court procedures, filing processes, and case movement.
- Compiling statistical reports and monitoring timely delivery of judgments.
- Managing books, research papers, and handling any additional tasks assigned.
- Performing any other duty as directed by the Hon’ble President/Member.
Eligibility
- Graduate in Law (including integrated degree courses in Law) under the 10+2+3+3 or 10+2+5 pattern with minimum 50% aggregate marks
- Degree must be from a recognized institution approved by the Bar Council of India for admission as an Advocate
- Must have completed all law exams within the prescribed duration of the course.
- Law degree (LL.B./LL.M.) must have been obtained not earlier than two years from the advertisement date (i.e., not before 19.06.2023).
- Final-year students of the 5-year Integrated Law Course or 3-year Law Course (post-graduation in any stream) are eligible, if they provide proof of qualification before joining.
- Not eligible if pursuing any postgraduate degree or program that requires compulsory attendance during the engagement period.
- Must not be above 30 years of age as on 18.07.2025.
- Should possess research, analytical, and writing skills, especially in using legal research tools like eSCR, Manupatra, SCC Online, LexisNexis, Westlaw, etc.
- Must be proficient in computers and common software such as MS Office
- Required to have sound knowledge of Company Law and the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC).
