It has an active presence in over 30 plantations across Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri districts of West Bengal. The organisation works to defend and advance the rights of tea sector workers. Its focus lies on collective action, legal intervention, and grassroots advocacy.
Details of the Job/Internship
Paschim Banga Cha Majoor Samity (PBCMS) is hiring a Lawyer cum Campaign Coordinator to join their office in Birpara (Alipurduar, West Bengal) / Kolkata.
Role and Responsibilities
- Address issues related to labour rights, land rights, food security, and gender justice in the tea plantation sector.
- Provide legal assistance and advocacy support for plantation workers.
- Draft petitions, complaints, RTIs, and other legal documents.
- Represent workers before statutory authorities and relevant forums.
- Conduct research, drafting, and coordination for litigation before courts and quasi-judicial bodies.
- Organise rights-awareness workshops and capacity-building sessions on labour laws.
- Support paralegals/activists in strengthening grassroots legal action.
- Contribute to campaigns, advocacy materials, and social media communication.
Eligibility
- Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B.).
- Fresh graduates may apply.
- Candidates from marginalised backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
