Details of the Job/Internship
CPP Investments is looking for a candidate for the position of Lawyer.
Role and Responsibilities
- Working closely with a Director, Legal in the Mumbai office, partner with deal teams to provide strategic, creative and commercial transaction support and advice across a broad range of investment matters in India
- Engage with deal teams and external counsel on complex deal-specific and institutional-level transactional issues
- Provide advice and assess legal risk in connection with review and amendment of commercial contracts in the APAC region, and manage and enhance related contractual templates and precedents, working closely and collaboratively with other lawyers and paralegal professionals in the Legal Department and business units across the enterprise
- Provide advice and assess risk in connection with review and negotiation of material issues arising on commercial and investment-related non-disclosure agreements, engagement letters and other types of agreements in the APAC region.
- Provide general corporate support in connection with the operation, governance and maintenance of the Mumbai office, including our Mumbai-based technology and data operations.
- Provide and support training of investment and enterprise teams and external counsel on institutional, department, group, and deal-specific key considerations.
- Support development and implementation of enterprise policies, procedures, systems and training to support implementation of advice and risk management.
- Support and collaborate with Legal department colleagues and other partners across the organization in relation to transaction- and enterprise related matters.
- Anticipate, identify and assist in managing legal risks relating to new investment strategies and enterprise activities, and new or changed laws or regulations that impact CPP Investments’ investment and operating strategies.
- Be a key contributor to Legal Department and CPP Investments-wide initiatives and projects.
- Generally assist on other legal matters as they arise.
Eligibility
- LL.B./LL.M/JD or equivalent required.
- 5-8 years of relevant legal experience gained at an in-house corporate legal department and/or major law firm, including meaningful experience in India.
- Experience in financial services, capital markets and/or a transactional background is an asset.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to work cooperatively with many different stakeholders and ability to manage outside counsel.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple competing projects.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
- Motivated self-started with the ability to work independently with moderate to minimal supervision.
- Flexibility and adaptability, including off-hours support relating to transactions, international offices and projects.
- Professional conduct reflecting the quality of work, demeanour, ethical values and high standards of CPP Investments.
Salary/Stipend
