Details of the Job/Internship
Meta is hiring for the position of Lead Counsel, Security, APAC to join their office in Gurgaon.
Role and Responsibilities
- Provide advice and support the processing of legal requests for user data, and manage the litigation of matters implicating user data disclosure in criminal matters.
- Provide subject matter advice related to protecting our employees and assets (physical safety and legal security).
- Develop strategic approaches to managing regulatory, criminal and policy legal risks and resolving disputes.
- Identify and advise business and product partners on legal obligations globally relating to data collection, preservation, and disclosure, and platform safety and integrity, including child safety and other serious crimes.
- Support and advise cross-functional teams in implementing, testing, and evaluating safety and integrity compliance controls.
- Work closely and creatively with cross-functional teams, including Legal, Policy, Communications, Engineering, and Business Operations in reviewing and addressing governmental regulations, agency guidelines, policies, including government requests for user data.
- Willingness to work off-hours and overtime, including weekends and occasionally on holidays, in order to support emergency matters and interact with globally-based company employees.
Eligibility
- Resident in India.
- Law degree.
- 5+ years of legal experience, including government, in-house and/or law firm experience advising technology or telecommunications companies on Indian law (or on issues of similar complexity or relevance).
- Experience strategically managing and handling contentious Indian regulatory issues and/or criminal matters.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams and influencing stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience providing counsel on India’s 2021 Information Technology (IT) Rules.
- Experience regionally on issues pertaining to data collection, protection, and disclosure and analogous international laws.
- Experience providing guidance to providers in responding to law enforcement. requests or criminal matters.
- Experience with criminal litigation.
- Experience with Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty requests, Letters Rogatory, or other forms of international cooperation.
- Regional experience engaging with regulators and legislators on regulatory, safety and security matters preferred.
- Experience assessing, analyzing, and resolving multiple risk management-related issues and challenges while meeting tight deadlines.
- Experience with applicable regulatory compliance requirements and spotting emerging trends and “hot issues”.
- Experience and knowledge of telecommunication regulatory frameworks desirable but not essential.
- Experience with U.S. law, including the Stored Communications Act, Wiretap Act, Pen Register/Trap and Trace Statute.

- Ability to think strategically to solve legal challenges with attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate and present effectively to diverse audiences.
