Details of the Job/Internship

Tala is hiring a Lead Counsel with 8+ years of experience to join their India office in the Greater Kolkata Area.

Role and Responsibilities

• Lead the compliance and strategy for Tala India’s NBFC license and partnerships.
• Advise on product and growth regulations across local and global jurisdictions.
• Oversee regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and secretarial obligations.
• Keep updated on emerging laws and assess their business impact.
• Draft, negotiate, and review commercial contracts and documentation.
• File secretarial and regulatory submissions under Companies Act, FEMA, RBI, etc.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies and manage external legal counsel.
• Build and implement a robust compliance framework and risk strategy.
• Mentor legal team members and oversee their performance.
• Align local legal procedures with Tala’s global compliance standards.

Eligibility

• 8+ years of legal experience, including 2+ years at a top-tier law firm.
• At least 2 years as legal/compliance advisor to an NBFC.
• Strong understanding of RBI, Companies Act, FEMA, and financial sector laws.
• Experience in fintech or with international companies preferred.
• Law degree from a reputed institution.
• Company Secretary certification.
