Details of the Job/Internship

PayU is hiring a Lead – Legal Counsel with experience of 4–7 years to join their team in Gurgaon or Mumbai. 

Role and Responsibilities

• Support growth plans for credit, payments, and fintech verticals by providing strategic legal and regulatory guidance.
• Manage the full contract lifecycle, including drafting, redlining, and negotiating complex commercial agreements like MSAs and MoUs.
• Conduct in-depth legal research to form views on new legislations governing NBFCs, digital lending, and payment systems.
• Collaborate with internal product teams to design and launch original, compliant fintech solutions.
• Lead negotiations with external parties, including Lending Service Providers (LSPs), banks, and technology vendors.
• Develop and maintain standardized contract templates, playbooks, and negotiation frameworks to reduce closure timelines.
• Monitor regulatory developments from the RBI and other bodies to ensure business-wide compliance.
• Support post-signing compliance and governance-related initiatives for the organization.

Eligibility

• Bachelor’s degree in Law from a recognized Indian institute.
• 4–7 years of professional experience with a reputed law firm or financial institution.
• Strong knowledge of Indian laws concerning NBFCs, digital lending, payment aggregation, and PPIs.
• Experience in drafting and negotiating high-value commercial and technology contracts.
• Preferred: Background in M&A, capital markets, or technology/privacy legal work.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, result-oriented environment.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
