Details of the Job/Internship
Sarvoham Animal Foundation is hiring a Legal Advocate with 3+ years of experience to handle all legal, compliance, and litigation matters related to the shelter and its operations in Bengaluru.
Role and Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with animal welfare laws in India and NGO regulations including Trust laws, FCRA, CSR, and tax exemptions.
- Oversee labour law compliance, employment agreements, and workplace safety rules.
- Draft and implement internal policies for adoptions, rescues, fosters, volunteers, and euthanasia protocols.
- Draft, review, and manage veterinary, adoption, foster, vendor, and land agreements.
- Negotiate with external parties to safeguard the shelter’s interests.
- Represent the shelter in animal cruelty cases and employment disputes.
- File or defend cases involving illegal animal trade, harassment, or violations of shelter rights.
- Coordinate with authorities for rescues, FIRs, and case follow-ups.
- Advocate for stronger enforcement of animal protection laws.
- Draft and file PILs, RTIs, and complaints on systemic animal welfare issues.
- Collaborate with networks, government bodies, and NGOs for policy initiatives.
- Provide legal advice to management and trustees.
- Draft liability waivers and indemnity clauses.
- Manage insurance claims and legal matters related to property, staff, and vehicles.
- Ensure compliance of fundraising campaigns and donation drives with Indian law.
- Register and protect the shelter’s intellectual property and take action against misuse.
Eligibility
- Bachelor of Law (LLB) from a recognized university; LLM preferred.
- Enrolled with a State Bar Council in India and eligible to practice as an Advocate.
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in civil law, litigation, and NGO/Trust compliance.
- Strong knowledge of animal welfare legislation, FCRA, CSR, and labour law.
- Proven experience in contract drafting, dispute resolution, and legal compliance.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and representation skills.
- Passionate about animal rights and social justice causes.
- Ability to work independently and handle urgent or sensitive cases.
Salary/Stipend
