Details of the Job/Internship
PETA India is hiring a Legal Associate – Cruelty Response on a full-time retainership contract with 3 years of experience to join their Mumbai or Delhi office.
Role and Responsibilities
- Monitor trial progress for FIRs and Preliminary Offense Reports (PORs).
- File, pursue, and defend cases or applications for animal rescue and rehabilitation.
- Conduct legal research for ongoing and proposed litigation.
- Advise on applicable legal provisions and charges in cruelty cases.
- Liaise with public prosecutors and external counsels to ensure effective case management.
- Represent PETA India professionally in court and before government authorities.
- Draft legal documents, official letters, and Right to Information requests.
- Maintain detailed legal records and coordinate case-related communication.
- Travel as required for court and police-related matters.
Eligibility
- LL.B. from a BCI-recognized university.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience, including at least 2 years in criminal law or litigation.
- Trial court experience and strong knowledge of criminal laws.
- Fluency in English and Hindi; knowledge of additional languages preferred.
- Strong communication, research, and organizational skills.
- Compassionate, self-driven, and committed to animal welfare.
- Adherence to a vegan lifestyle.
