Details of the Job/Internship
Ascend is hiring a Legal Associate (Immigration) with 1 year of experience for a fully remote position. The role includes a 2-month training period followed by a 6-month probationary period. This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week.
Role and Responsibilities
- Client Communication and Drafting:
- Draft and edit client communications, including recommendation letters and immigration-related correspondence.
- Email clients with updates, requests for additional documentation, and responses to inquiries.
- Documentation and Progress Tracking:
- Maintain and update client progress sheets to accurately reflect case status and milestones.
- Organize and manage case documents, ensuring all files are current, accurate, and complete.
- Drafting Legal Documents:
- Assist in drafting and reviewing immigration-related legal documents under the supervision of senior team members.
- Prepare memoranda and reports summarizing client cases and important details.
- Case Coordination and Follow-up:
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure timely submission of all necessary documents.
- Follow up with clients and colleagues regarding outstanding information or documentation.
- Compliance and Quality Assurance:
- Ensure that all client documentation adheres to relevant immigration laws and regulatory requirements.
- Stay informed about updates and changes in immigration policies that may impact client cases.
Eligibility
- A law graduate with at least 1 year of full-time law experience, a bachelor's level degree in law is required
- Proficient in strong legal research and have excellent writing abilities for drafting legal documents, memoranda, and reports.
- Ability to analyze complex legal issues, statutes, regulations, and case law critically.
- Clarity with fundamental understanding of legal concepts, terminology, and procedures.
- Adhere to the highest ethical and professional standards. They should be familiar with the rules of professional responsibility and maintain client confidentiality.
- Proficient in using legal research databases, processing software (such as MS Word, MS Excel) and Google workspaces (Drives, Docs, Sheets and slides).
- Ready to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines and prioritize assignments.
