SIS is a Mumbai-based shipping company that has been operating ocean going tankers for the last 20 years after being incorporated under the Companies Act, 1956, in Mumbai (India) on 2nd of May, 2002.
Details of the Job/Internship
Seven Islands Shipping Ltd. is hiring for the position of Legal Associate with 5 years of experience to join their office in Mumbai.
Role and Responsibilities
I. Litigation Management
- Support civil, criminal, and arbitration cases.
- Vet and file pleadings before Courts, Tribunals, Fora, and Authorities.
- Maintain and circulate timely MIS reports for ongoing litigation.
II. Non-Litigation
- Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents, including:
- Agreements, MoUs, Lease Deeds, Trust Deeds, LOIs
- Service Level, IT, Marketing, Admin, and Outsourcing Contracts
- NDAs, Powers of Attorney, and vendor-related documentation
- Draft and review corporate policies and procedures (including those for the Maritime Training Institute).
- Conduct primary due diligence, including property title searches and transaction formalities (sale, purchase, lease, or acquisition).
- Manage registration and compliance for property transfers.
- File and manage intellectual property applications.
- Conduct research on laws, circulars, notifications, policies, and case law.
III. Maritime Law & Compliance
- Prepare and file applications with MMD for vessel registrations.
- Support documentation for vessel sale, purchase, import, and export transactions.
Eligibility
- Education: Bachelor of Laws (LLB) – mandatory.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant legal experience, preferably with exposure to shipping or maritime law.
