Details of the Job/Internship

Barclays is hiring a Legal Counsel – Commercial, Innovation & Technology to join its Global Commercial, Innovation and Technology (CIT) Legal team, based in Pune. The role involves providing legal advice and support on commercial, technology, innovation, real estate, data, and related matters across the Barclays Group, while ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.

Role and Responsibilities

• Advise on commercial and technology agreements including supplier, client, and partner-facing contracts.
• Negotiate and advise on agreements such as software licences, SaaS and cloud services, maintenance, sponsorship, professional services, and proofs of concept.
• Handle third-party commercial contracts governed by Indian law and relevant aspects of non-Indian law.
• Provide transactional and advisory legal support across areas including real estate documentation, intra-group agreements, data privacy, litigation, regulatory raids, and engagement with consultants and law firms.
• Ensure compliance with Barclays policies and applicable laws and regulations.
• Develop and implement legal strategies for risk management and compliance in CIT areas.
• Represent the bank in litigation, arbitration, and regulatory investigations related to CIT matters.
• Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents and agreements for commercial, technology, data, real estate, and sponsorship activities.
• Conduct legal research and stay updated on legal and regulatory changes impacting the business.
• Identify, communicate, and advise on applicable laws, rules, and regulations, and ensure their integration into policies and controls.
• Contribute to organisational and functional initiatives and, where applicable, lead teams or collaborative assignments in line with Barclays leadership expectations and values.

Eligibility

• Qualified lawyer in India (Solicitor, Barrister, or equivalent).
• Relevant post-qualification experience in-house and/or private practice.
• Strong technical knowledge of commercial and technology agreements.
• Excellent English communication skills, including reading, writing, and speaking.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Law in India.
• Experience in financial services, IT/ITES, or fintech is desirable.

Salary/Stipend
