South Pole is a global climate solutions provider and carbon project developer, offering services in two main areas: Certificates (e.g., carbon credits, renewable energy certificates) and Climate Advisory Services (including net zero strategy, ESG advisory, and climate risk assessment). The Legal & Compliance Team spans several jurisdictions and plays a crucial role in managing cross-border legal operations.

Details of the Job/Internship

South Pole is hiring a Legal Counsel in Bengaluru, India, with 4-5  years of post-qualification experience. The ideal candidate will support global legal matters, working across regions including EMEA and North America.

Role and Responsibilities

• Draft and negotiate international commercial agreements (e.g., ERPAs, carbon credit sales, service agreements, SaaS, etc.).
• Support contract negotiations with global clients and partners.
• Advise on regulatory developments, compliance, and risk mitigation strategies.
• Assist with legal documentation, templates, playbooks, and training.
• Collaborate with internal teams (HR, IT, Finance, Risk, Marketing) on legal processes and governance.
• Support dispute resolution including settlement and mediation efforts.
• Participate in legal improvement initiatives and cross-functional legal advisory work.

Eligibility

• Law degree and license to practice law in a common law jurisdiction (e.g., India, UK, Singapore, Australia, NY, HK).
• 4–5 years of post-qualification experience in a law firm or in-house legal department.
• Native-level English proficiency.
• Prior exposure to ESG, environmental markets, or cross-border commercial contracts is preferred.
• Strong written, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Comfortable working across jurisdictions and time zones.
