Details of the Job/Internship

Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement is hiring a Legal Counsel with experience of 3–7 years to join their office in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

Role and Responsibilities

• Provide timely legal advice on commercial contracts, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, employment matters, and other legal issues.
• Draft, review, and negotiate supplier, customer, service, NDA, licensing, and partnership agreements.
• Support company secretarial duties, board and committee documentation, statutory records, and corporate governance compliance.
• Manage regulatory obligations and liaise with regulators and external advisers.
• Identify and mitigate legal risks with commercially appropriate strategies.
• Support disputes, investigations, and litigation matters in coordination with external counsel.
• Conduct legal research on emerging regulatory issues and prepare guidance, templates, and training materials.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support projects and strategic initiatives.
• Manage external law firms and advisers while monitoring budgets and quality.

Eligibility

• Qualified solicitor or lawyer admitted to practice in a relevant jurisdiction or equivalent.
• 3–7 years of post-qualification experience in a law firm or in-house legal team, preferably in commercial contracts and corporate matters.
• Experience in advising on regulatory and compliance matters is desirable.
• Degree in Law (LLB) or equivalent; additional legal qualifications are an advantage.
• Excellent drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills with attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills to explain legal issues to non-legal teams.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure.
• High integrity, discretion, and respect for confidentiality.
• Familiarity with contract management or legal tech tools is desirable.
