Details of the Job/Internship

Deel is hiring a Legal Counsel with payments and fintech experience to support its global regulatory, fintech, and licensing operations across the company.

Role and Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain the legal framework for global payments operations.
• Serve as the primary legal advisor for financial and payment services, including product guidance, regulatory requirements, and licensing.
• Act as the main legal liaison for payment product teams, integrating legal and compliance standards into business initiatives.
• Develop and implement practical, scalable legal and compliance processes.
• Contribute to the creation and enhancement of internal legal and compliance protocols.
• Monitor and advise on new laws and regulations affecting payment services.
• Facilitate legal movement of employees across borders for business travel.

Eligibility

• 5+ years of experience as a qualified lawyer.
• Minimum 1–2 years of experience in legal aspects of the payments industry (e.g., money transmission, lending, banking services, or fintech) in a law firm or in-house.
• JD, LLB, LLM, or equivalent qualification, or authorization to practice law.
• Fluency in English; additional language skills are advantageous.
• Demonstrated interest in payments and regulatory consulting with experience in regulated industries.
• Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams across global regions.
• Experience managing relationships with internal and external counsel.
• Background in a fast-paced, dynamic startup or high-growth environment.

Salary/Stipend
