Details of the Job/Internship

Emeritus is hiring for the position of Legal Counsel with 7+ years of experience to join their office remotely. 

Role and Responsibilities

• Lead the legal workstream for the international campus initiative in India, managing contracts and compliance for multiple physical campuses across various locations.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts involving students, faculty, partners, and vendors in connection with the international campus initiative in India.
• Address all student-related legal issues and compliance matters associated with the campus initiative.
• Develop and update standard agreements, in coordination with the Global General Counsel and Head of Legal, India.
• Collaborate with the Privacy Team to ensure adherence to privacy laws impacting the campus initiative in India.
• Provide training to internal stakeholders regarding contracting processes and compliance practices.
• Coordinate with HR, Finance, and other departments to manage intercompany transactions effectively.
• Navigate a high-volume workload involving diverse transactions across various time zones, maintaining exceptional quality standards in documentation and communication.

Eligibility

• A minimum of 7 years of in-house legal experience, ideally within the higher education or ed-tech sectors.
• Proficient in contract drafting, review, and negotiation.
• Comprehensive understanding of UGC regulations for establishing foreign university campuses in India.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with globally distributed teams and stakeholders across multiple time zones.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders and university partners.
• Strong project management capabilities, with a proven track record of delivering multi-stakeholder legal projects on schedule.
• High attention to detail and a strong sense of urgency.
• Prior experience in fast-paced startup or growth-stage environments is advantageous.
