Details of the Job/Internship
Formula 1 is hiring a Legal Counsel – Commercial (NQ–1 PQE) to join its Commercial Legal Department in London. The role supports Formula 1’s revenue-generating agreements with broadcasters, distributors of F1 TV, global partners, official sponsors, licensees, retail partners, and key service providers. The position also involves advising the business on intellectual property and brand protection, advertising standards, artificial intelligence, and data protection matters. The role sits within a team of eight lawyers and two paralegals and reports to a senior lawyer.
Role and Responsibilities
- Advising on, drafting, and negotiating sponsorship agreements with existing and prospective partners.
- Drafting and negotiating media rights agreements relating to Formula 1 and its support series.
- Handling ancillary and digital media rights agreements, including agreements relating to F1 TV distribution and syndication.
- Drafting and negotiating licence agreements with consumer product licensees, gaming partners, and experiential partners.
- Advising on complex services agreements, including broadcast delivery and website development agreements.
- Supporting retail, marketing, esports, advertising sales, and digital teams with legal advice and agreements.
- Supporting procurement activities, including review and negotiation of goods and services agreements and data processing addendums.
- Advising internal stakeholders on data protection matters.
- Responding to day-to-day legal enquiries from internal and external stakeholders.
- Supporting commercial teams with contract management and acting as a legal point of contact.
- Preparing legal research and know-how materials and contributing to internal training.
- Updating template agreements and playbooks to improve efficiency.
Eligibility
- Qualified lawyer with 0–1 years’ post-qualification experience.
- Training and qualification at a leading law firm with high-quality supervision.
- Experience as a junior lawyer in a leading law firm or in-house legal team.
- Experience across commercial contracts, intellectual property, and data protection matters.
- Strong legal drafting and negotiation skills.
- Experience in media licensing and or sponsorship agreements is desirable but not mandatory.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of English law.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple workstreams in a fast-paced environment.
Salary/Stipend
