Details of the Job/Internship
IDFC FIRST Bank is hiring a Legal Counsel with experience of 2–5 years to join their office in Mumbai. The role involves supporting and managing legal activities within the Retail Risk function, including drafting and reviewing contracts, conducting legal research, preparing legal documents and reports, and assisting senior legal team members in litigation, investigations, contract negotiations, and settlements. The position requires collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to safeguard the bank’s legal and commercial interests.
Role and Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice to business groups on banking operations in coordination with the Head – Wholesale Banking Legal.
- Demonstrate knowledge of banking products such as term loans, working capital loans, consortium and multiple banking arrangements, and security documentation.
- Stay updated on regulatory frameworks, including stamp duty, project finance, and transaction banking services like cash management, bank guarantees, SBLCs, and escrow arrangements.
- Advise business teams on strategies aligned with the bank’s vision and corporate goals.
- Support corporate clients, conglomerates, debt syndication, transaction banking, trade finance, documentation, and operations teams in closing transactions efficiently.
- Review and provide legal input on contractual documents and assist in resolving disputes.
- Ensure accurate legal advice on transactional matters.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Monitor statutory obligations and ensure legal compliance.
- Address customer and regulatory escalations related to the banking group.
- Develop and update legal manuals and procedures.
Eligibility
- Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) is mandatory.
- Master’s degree in Law (LLM) or related field is preferred.
- 2 to 5 years of relevant legal experience.
- Strong legal research and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and work under pressure.
- Proficiency in drafting and reviewing legal documents.
- Knowledge of banking regulations and financial products.
- Attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
