Details of the Job/Internship
JMAN Group is hiring a Legal Counsel with 3–5 years of post-qualification experience to join their Chennai office.
Role and Responsibilities
- Advise on and manage a range of commercial agreements including NDAs, MSAs, SOWs, T&Cs, DPAs, and licenses.
- Draft, review, negotiate, and finalise commercial contracts with minimal supervision.
- Identify legal, commercial, and risk issues and propose practical solutions aligned with business objectives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to mitigate contract risks and ensure compliance.
- Support development and maintenance of legal templates, clause libraries, and internal playbooks.
- Oversee contract lifecycle management processes and ensure audit readiness.
- Provide legal advice on local office initiatives and HR-related matters.
- Support privacy compliance activities including RoPAs, DPIAs, TRAs, and LIAs.
- Identify emerging legal and regulatory risks, particularly in data protection and AI regulation.
- Assist in legal, compliance, and governance programmes, including audits and policy updates.
- Act as a primary contact for contractual matters for internal teams and stakeholders.
- Coordinate with external counsel and support legal workstreams.
- Promote strong governance, ethical conduct, and risk management practices.
Eligibility
- Law degree (B.A. LL.B.) or equivalent from India, UK, US, or other Commonwealth jurisdictions.
- 3–5 years of post-qualification experience, preferably with a mix of in-house and law firm exposure.
- Experience in reviewing and administering commercial contracts in professional services or technology sectors.
- Strong knowledge of contract law and practical application in business environments.
- Experience in drafting and negotiating commercial agreements such as MSAs, SOWs, NDAs, DPAs, and SaaS/PaaS licenses.
- Exposure to contract lifecycle management processes.
- Familiarity with data protection laws preferred.
- Interest or experience in AI-enabled legal tools and process optimisation preferred.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.
