Details of the Job/Internship
Perseus Mining owns the Nyanzaga Gold Project and is recruiting a Legal Counsel to support its Tanzanian operations. The Legal Counsel will be responsible for managing all legal and compliance aspects for Perseus in Tanzania. This includes overseeing company secretarial duties for Perseus Tanzania entities.

Role and Responsibilities
- Legal Documentation: Draft, negotiate, monitor, and execute legal and commercial documentation.
- Government Liaison: Monitor the submission of government applications, forms, and reports, and liaise with the government on legal, compliance, and other matters.
- Advisory: Advise managers on legal and compliance matters.
- Corporate Governance: Administer and manage all corporate, governance, and compliance matters, including organizing and minuting board meetings for Perseus Tanzania entities.
- Assist with the timely development of budgets and forecasts related to the legal department.
- Achieve agreed-upon Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for each financial year.
- Liaise with external lawyers for all Perseus Tanzania companies.
- Ensure all contracts are properly authorized before execution.
- Identify and report weaknesses in internal controls or procedural breaches that could affect Perseus Tanzania's activities.
- Liaise with government and Perseus managers to ensure timely approvals and renewals of permits.
- Advise the Group on new or proposed legislative changes and provide feedback to the government as necessary.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations, including government reporting requirements.
- Contribute to Business Improvement Initiatives (BII) aimed at reducing costs.
- Advise HR staff and managers on local employment and industrial relations compliance.
- Provide employee relations support to Operations to ensure compliance with Tanzanian labor laws.
- Liaise with government shareholders and external directors to achieve efficient approval of resolutions.
Eligibility
- Tertiary qualification in law (admission as an advocate is desirable).
- 10+ years of experience in corporate and commercial law, either in a law firm or in-house.
- Experience in the mining sector is desirable.
- Experience in dealing with Tanzanian regulators.
- Sound knowledge of the Tanzanian legal system.
- Strong written and spoken English language skills.
Salary/Stipend
